Disney has revealed the trailer for its next big picture, Frozen. The story of the film is loosely based on the Hans Christian Anderson story, “The Snow Queen”. The basic gist is that the princess, Anna, undertakes an epic journey to find and stop her sister Elsa, whose ice powers threaten the kingdom of Arendelle with eternal winter.
…except that that isn’t what you see in the first official Frozen trailer unveiled by Disney on the official Frozen website.
That was a 2 minute short of a snowman and a reindeer. What does any of that have to do with the story or Anna? It turns out that those two actually are side-characters. The reindeer (whose name is Sven) is the valued companion of the mountaineer, Kristoff, who travels with Anna on her quest. And the snowman’s name is Olaf, who they’ll meet on their adventure at some point. If you would like to see an actual trailer that shows glimpses of the story and main characters (like a trailer should) then you should look at the Japanese trailer for Frozen. Why didn’t Disney use this as the official trailer? (except in English)
Frozen will premiere in the winter of 2013.
